Shoes and Tights for girls.

Hi all.

I'm putting this here for future reference. It's information that everyone needs to know about and it never changes.

If you have any questions or problems with anything please contact me and let me know.

Shoes for girls

First of all, the best place in the City (that I’m aware of) to buy dance shoes are the Show Biz Dancewear Boutiques. To help, I’ve included each address and telephone number below:

4427 NW 63rd
Oklahoma City, OK 73116
405-840-4406

10625 S Western
Oklahoma City, OK 73159
405-691-6707

334 S Santa Fe
Edmond, OK 73003
(405) 341-7739

All Oklahoma Children’s Acting Guild's female members will need at least two types of “stock“ shoes. Black Character Shoes and black Soft-Soled Shoes.

The Character Shoes must be the exact type that the rest of the Guild has. The only exception is the length of the heel. Girls can have shoes with 1 inch heels, 1 ½ inch heels or 2 inch heels.

Below are three links. The first it to a 1 inch heel, the second to a 1 ½ inch heel and the third to a 2 inch heel.

As you can see from the pictures, the 1 ½ inch heel and the 2 inch heel look very much alike and I prefer girls to have one of those two choices. I don’t want to have girls hurting themselves however, so if a girl simply can not wear the higher 1 ½ inch then the 1 inch is ok. Remember too that the shoes all need to have just the one strap across them. Don’t get the shoes that have the “Tee/T Strap.”

DO NOT get these shoes without having your child try them on first. The only reason I’ve supplied the links is to show you what they look like. The sizes of Character Shoes are not the same as regular shoes. Also, if you’re going with the 1 inch heel then start early. These might have to be ordered through the dance shop.

The Soft-Soled Shoes can be picked from many acceptable shoes.

Below are four links. The first it to a picture of several Ballet Shoes. The only difference in the Shoes is the color. Remember, get the black ones. The second link goes to a picture of a black Lyrical/Modern Dance Shoe. The third link goes to a picture of a black Jazz Shoes with laces. The fourth link goes to a picture of a black Jazz Shoe without laces.

Most of the girls get the black Jazz Shoe without laces but any of the four listed above will work.

Remember, don’t buy these without putting your child’s foot in it first. The pictures are just to give you an idea.

The Ballet Shoes (sometimes) come without the elastic strap sewn in them. Members will be responsible for having a strap of black elastic sewn across the shoes so that the shoes won't fall off of their feet.

When you’re dealing with Ballet Slippers, Jazz Shoes and Lyrical/Modern Dance Shoes you can usually get these for much cheaper at dance “schools.” Many times they will have second hand dance shoes that are less expensive.

ALSO, you might notice that on this Forum, under Parents’ Place there is a section called Resale Shop. Check that section out if you’re looking for shoes that other members have grown out of and please feel free to post if you happen to have shoes that your child has grown out of. This goes for any kind of costume at all.

Tights

All girls will need 2 pairs of black tights (not black pantyhose please), 1 pair of flesh colored tights and 1 pair of black fishnet stockings (please don‘t get ones with a back seam). All of these can easily be found at the Show Biz Dancewear Boutiques. To give you an idea of what the fishnet stockings should look like, please see this link:

The natural condition of the theatre business is one of insurmountable obstacles on the road to imminent disaster. However, as strange and unbelievable as it sounds, it always turns out well. No one knows why this is. It’s a mystery.
