Talented children spending summer on tour

The kids of the Oklahoma Children’s Acting Guild started off a string of summer activities last week with a performance at the Berryhill reunion at Bethany on Saturday.

The show marked the first stop in a summer schedule that will include live shows, field trips and television appearances.

After entertaining local audiences with the musicals "Babes in Arms," "Lullaby of Broadway" and "Oklahoma!", artistic director Marissa Pace Winkelman decided to take the students of the guild to other communities for a summer of entertaining.

Next on the schedule is the group’s performance at Pepperfest, set for this Saturday at Blanchard. The group will be on the main stage at 3:45 p.m., and expect to entertain the crowd with songs from "Oklahoma!", "Annie" and "The Sound of Music."

After that comes a television appearance on "Hello Oklahoma!" on KSBI-52. "Hello Oklahoma!" stars Brenda Bennett and showcases differrent topics of interest in the state. The students of the Oklahoma Children’s Acting Guild will be performing live during the show, which is on channel 52 from 6:30-8 a.m.

After the television appearance, the kids will get busy rehearsing for the Tuttle Ice Cream Festival on July 3, although they will take time out for a field trip to see "Godspell" at the Pollard Theatre in Guthrie on June 25.

Later activities include seeing "Hamlet" at Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park in Edmond and performing at the Watermelon Festival in Rush Springs, the Grady County Fair, the State Fair of Oklahoma, and the Festival of Lights in Chickasha.

"We’re keeping a busy schedule this summer, but we’re having a lot of fun," said Winkelman. "And our activities are going to continue into the next school year."
